Route 66 was a mostly two lane highway that extended from Chicago to Los Angeles, through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, before gradually giving up to the modern interstate. Most of the old pavement is still there, and can be followed with the right maps and directions. I drove the entire length of old 66 in 2012, and invite you to follow along!

Missouri Route 66 - Lebanon
LEBANON, MISSOURI. Wrink's Market, for many
years a small grocery and convenience store familiar to traveling
66'ers, is now D.C. Decker's Cowboy Emporium, a western themed museum
that also serves sandwiches and coffee. The new setup is very much in
the Route 66 tradition and well worth a stop, and the new owners had
sense enough not to change the look of the old building as seen from the
road. This Route 66 landmark, no longer viable with its original
business model as a grocery, has been reinvented and saved for future 66
generations.
